The Afghan Rug Shop is the only company outside Afghanistan, anywhere in the world, purely selling fairtrade handmade Afghan rugs. James Wilthew established the business in 2015 and imports their rugs direct from their weavers in Northern Afghanistan.

Whilst serving with the RAF in Afghanistan in 2003 James fell in love with the country and its people, also developing a passion for their rugs. After James had left the military and moved to Hebden Bridge in 2015, he managed to track down his Afghan friend he used to buy from and after weeks of searching, rekindled their friendship online and the business was born.

James stocks rugs of all sizes and beautiful handmade Afghan glassware and pottery. He is a Living Wage employer and a corporate sponsor of Afghanaid.org, “putting money back into the community that directly supports us is simply the right thing to do”.
