Hebden Bridge is sometimes known as “The Centre of the Universe” on account of it’s unusually wacky reputation. It is certainly at the centre of Northern England, at the intersection of urban industrial history and dramatic Pennine countryside, midway between Leeds and Manchester.
Hebden Bridge Mill has stood at the centre of the town for over 700 years! Beautifully restored, the mill is now a visitor centre in its own right – with illustrated wall panels and a historic timeline to outline its eventful history, and one of the oldest industrial buildings in the country. However, bringing it right up-to-date, the mill is now building a future from its historic past.
The old waterwheel has been restored in parallel with a new Archimedes Screw to generate electricity from the river AND, in addition to operate two large water source Heatpumps, to take heat from the river for all hot water and central heating in the building.
Entirely run on sustainable, renewable energy, you know that it does not cost the earth to eat, drink or shop at Hebden Bridge Mill.
